PATH - building our autism strategy

Update on current workstreams

Employment

Oxfordshire Employment Services taking over from Right Employment as from 28th September to continue this two-year pilot working with 25 people with Asperger syndrome. The average age of the people being worked with is 25. Some people are aged 30+ and have only had a diagnosis in the last 12 months.
Autism Oxford will be providing training for OES support staff.
Of the people OES is working with:

• 7 have found employment
• 4 have started training
• 1 has gone back to university

British Association of Social Workers has done work on how much it costs to support disabled adults into work via supported employment = £4,800 per person.

OES receiving weekly referrals from Job CentrePlus.
National programme for working with people with challenging behaviour.
Action: Employment sub-group - OES flyer and referral form to go on Autism Partnership Board’s webpages on Autism Oxford website.

Training

• Training Needs Audit across Oxfordshire
            JC is leading this audit which started in adult services but will now be extended to all-ages and include education
• Survey is in draft form and will then be available via Survey Monkey
• Autism Partnership Board members are asked to be pro-active in responding to the link
• Use Engagement Team
• Use organisation’s all user email system?
• Need to look at identifying a GP autism champion – ask John Walton for support and guidance. Also could contact through Local Medical Committee
• Send training flyer to schools – via Schools News?

Money

Family Support Worker.  Agreed to discuss this outside the Partnership Board.
Action: EM to arrange for SA, SB, FT and AN to meet.

AN has offered to provide one-off funding for:
• Building specific web-pages for the Autism Partnership Board on the Autism Oxford web-site. Action: KE
• Providing funding to enable adult social care data-base (Swift) to record autism diagnosis where known. Action: EM to liaise with David Proudfoot

Department of Health Assessment Tool

Action: EM – complete the tool and submit to the learning Disability Public Health Observatory (iHaL)

Forward plan

• Existing priorities from steering group meetings
• Gemma Gray’s report on children and young people with learning disability and autism
• Autism accreditation scheme.  Action: SH to make contact for presentation at next meeting. EM to include in agenda.
