Police & Probation Officers & Social Workers receiving specialist training from Autistic Trainers
Police Officers in the South & Vale and Cherwell districts have given enthusiastic feedback on training provided under the Autism Alert Card Scheme in Oxfordshire. The sessions were timed for delivery before the launch of the card scheme in Abingdon (July 2011) and Banbury (December 2011). Further sessions for Police Officers will be delivered in Witney and Oxford prior to the card launches in those areas in 2012.
This ground-breaking training is being led by Kathy Erangey with at least two of the following members of our training team, Richard Maguire, Paul Isaacs, Catherine Green and Aaron Harwood, each presenting from their own unique perspective. The sessions from our team have also been extremely well received by the Probation service, with more dates to be arranged shortly for Probation Officers.
On 9th November, a training day jointly presented by Rachel Reid of the National Autistic Society and Paul Isaacs of Autism Oxford’s training team, was held for Social Workers who carry out Fair Access to Care Assessments. The response from participants was overwhelmingly postive - we are being told that we are making a life-changing difference for people on the autism spectrum in Oxfordshire. The second date for this Social Care Assessors training is 24th January 2012, and is already oversubscribed with a waiting list. We are delighted to say that a third date is to be arranged following this wonderfully enthusiastic response.
